H. Dean Buttram Jr.
A native of Gadsden, H. Dean Buttram Jr. earned his law degree from the Cumberland School of Law in Birmingham, Ala. in 1978. During law school, he was awarded the American Jurisprudence "Book Awards" for his achievements in Equity Law and Criminal Law. He entered private practice in 1978 after being admitted to the Alabama Bar.
In 1998, Mr. Buttram was nominated by President Bill Clinton to serve as a U.S. District Judge for the Northern District of Alabama. His nomination received the unanimous consent of the U.S. Senate, and Mr. Buttram served in this prestigious position until June 30, 2002, when he returned to private practice in Centre.
He has served as the attorney for the Cherokee County Commission since 1980 and is local counsel for Alabama Power.
Mr. Buttram has been a member of the First United Methodist Church of Centre, Alabama, for 50 years. He has served as Finance Chairman for the past five years. An animal lover and owner of horses, dogs and cats, Mr. Buttram is Vice President of the Cherokee Humane Society, Inc.

Honors

The son of a coal miner, William M. Hawkins Jr. grew up in the Appalachian Mountains of Virginia. He graduated with honors from James Madison University with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1986. Mr. Hawkins earned his law degree from the Cumberland School of Law, Samford University in 1989, where he was a member of the American Journal of Trial Advocacy.
Mr. Hawkins has a wide range of practice and represents a diverse field of clientele. He is experienced in personal injury and wrongful death litigation as well as domestic relations. He also has an extensive criminal defense background, including defense of charges involving capital murder. Mr. Hawkins has also represented the town of Cedar Bluff and the Cherokee County Commission for the last 20 years.
Mr. Hawkins lives in Centre and attends the Centre First United Methodist Church. He is actively involved in youth sports, serving as a coach and president of the local Dixie Youth Baseball League. He is also past president of the Centre Optimist Club.

Chad Hopper has been with Buttram, Hawkins & Hopper, LLC since 2000. He earned his law degree from the University of Alabama School of Law and his undergraduate degree from Jacksonville State University.
Mr. Hopper is a member and Deacon at Centre First Baptist Church. He is also past Chairman of the Board for the Cherokee County Chamber of Commerce and past President of the University of Alabama Alumni Association Cherokee County Chapter. From 2003 to 2007, he served as the Board President for the Cherokee County Children's Advocacy Center and has served in the Centre Lions Club and as President of the Cherokee County Bar Association. He is active in youth sports, serving as a coach and referee in Upward Basketball and football.
Chad is known as a relentless litigator with trial experience in all matters of family law, divorce, criminal defense and civil litigation, including appeals. He also enjoys assisting clients with wills, estates and Social Security Disability. He handles all kinds of accident cases, including car and truck accidents and wrongful death.
